Neck

The Problem
Unfortunately the problem is all too familiar. For many, the undersurface of the chin becomes more full, plump, and rounded with time and with weight gain. The cheeks can become more round and the angle of the neck to the chin becomes more blunt.

Indications for Face & Neck Liposuction
Facial and neck liposuction is effective for removing localized fatty deposits in the undersurface of the neck area and the lower neck region. It is also effective in the cheek region and in front of the ears, as this area is often times more plump than it should be. Often times, despite dieting and exercise, the face can appear more full than desired. Exercise and diet are generally recommended and can certainly improve the overall appearance. However, in many cases, no matter how much we diet or exercise, the prominence and roundness of our facial features persist. Facial liposuction is therefore, in these instances, required to satisfactorily reduce the deposition that is produced by time and by abnormal fatty deposition. Particular success is achieved for those patients who have recently lost weight, yet feel that their face appears more full and rounded.

What is Tumescent Liposuction?
Tumescent is a particular technique that incorporates a combination of vasoconstrictive and anesthetic medications with a fluid ballooning technique. The technique effectively reduces bruising and increases safety. Liposuction is effective removal of excess fat through a small canula tube that is attached to a suction device. A network of tunnels is created beneath the skin in a precise manner and the canula is effectively inserted and suctions out the unwanted fat. An artistic recontouring and sculpting of the specific area or areas is performed and the end result is a significantly re-sculpted contour that improves the overall aesthetic appearance of the undersurface of the chin region, face, and neck areas.

Liposuction is often performed in combination with other facial plastic cosmetic procedures including rhytidectomy, rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty. The overall result of the facelift is dramatically enhanced when liposuction is incorporated into the facelift procedure.

Who Benefits From Face and Neck Liposuction?
Liposuction is most effective in removing fatty deposits in the areas that generally do not respond to diet and exercise. These areas include the cheek, jowl, and submental regions. Individuals whose exercise, maintain proper diet, experience weight loss and still do not achieve their aesthetic and appearance goals, are excellent candidates for face and neck liposuction. Many individuals who look at old photographs of themselves and see a much more thin face can simply benefit from face and neck liposuction.

The Procedure Liposuction generally is done under IV sedation or general anesthesia. The tumescent technique is also employed and this shrinks the capillaries to minimize the bruising and effectively assist in the removal of fat. Small incisions are created behind the ear lobule and also in the submental crease just below the chin. These incisions hide well and scarring is minimal. Sometimes small incisions inside the cheeks and inside the mouth are employed to remove some of the redundant fat in the cheek region. Specific areas of significant adipose deposition, particularly the submental, cheek, and neck areas are meticulously sculpted and effectively treated.

Face & Neck Liposuction ExpectationsEvery individual is unique and results vary from person to person depending upon ones inherent anatomy and underlying medical condition. Inherent elasticity of the skin and underlying medical conditions as well as the age of the patient are important factors. Postoperative swelling may camouflage the result initially and sometimes the overall result is not seen until months subsequent. Sometimes there can be small irregularities or firmness in the regions treated; however, this will soften and smooth out over time. The final result is generally evident by approximately six weeks to six months after the procedure.
